The Department of Public Safety (DPS) is seeking a Fingerprint Analyst to work within the Vermont Crime Information Center (VCIC) and assist with fingerprint identification and records management. The Analyst receives, examines, classifies, and records fingerprints (FP) submitted to VCIC by law enforcement agencies using AFIS (automated) and manual (ink) methods. Based upon data supplied via FP submissions, new records will be created within centrally managed criminal history database for dissemination for local, state, and national law enforcement purposes. The position will also respond to inquiries from Law Enforcement Agencies concerning FP related issues, including identification, procedure, and technical assistance. Additionally, the Analyst provides FP related information (including demographics) concerning identification of individuals involved with law enforcement events according to established guidelines. The ideal candidate will be able to concentrate on details and perform accurate work in the face of frequent interruptions. Human relations skills may be needed to deal with the general public. Pressure from work deadline is predictable. An option for limited telework may be considered following the initial training period. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent AND two (2) or more years of clerical work experience. OR Two (2) years or more of college coursework in a related field. Incumbent will become proficient in basic fingerprint classification within six (6) months from date of hire. Incumbent will become proficient with criminal history systems, including AFIS, VCHIP, PsPortals/Glink. Special Requirements A security clearance conducted by the Department of Public Safety may be required for candidates appointed to this class.
