What is BAYAC?

BAYAC AmeriCorps collaborates with schools and community-based organizations to serve youth and families in the San Francisco Bay Area. As part of AmeriCorps, BAYAC Members commit to a full-time (40 hours/week) term of service in the Bay Area's most high-need communities, working to provide youth with opportunities for meaningful engagement, skill building, and emotional and social development. This is a paid stipend position to gain experience in order to advance a career working with youth in the field of education or nonprofit sector. We are hiring folks to serve as after-school instructors, classroom assistants, academic coaches & mentors, wellness educators, program associates, and enrichment coordinators.

In San Francisco we are partnering with host sites: 826 Valencia, Mission Graduates, and Huckleberry Youth Programs.

Position duties may include:

  • Support students/youth in developing the skills they need to be successful in school and life
  • Provide homework and academic support for program participants at school sites
  • Provide case management, referrals, and independent living skills for clients at community based sites
  • Plan and facilitate youth focused lesson plans and activities
  • Promote a safe and positive learning environment
  • Actively supervise and ensure student/youth safety at all times
  • Model positive attitudes, behaviors, and language
  • Communicate regularly with the site coordinator and regional supervisor
  • Maintain accurate attendance records and reporting procedures
  • Attend and participate in weekly training and cohort meetings

Timeline: Service cohorts begin August 2025 and serve until July 2026 for 1700-hour members.

Requirements

  • U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or a lawful permanent resident of the United States

*Currently, we are unable to accept applicants with student visas (such as F1 or F2 student visas, J1 or J2 exchange visitor visas, G series visas, etc.) or those with Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) status.

  • At least 17 years old
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Ability to work full-time (40 hours/week) and commit to an 11-month term of service
  • Successful completion of TB test and Live Scan/fingerprinting (upon hire)
  • Prefer to have 48 college credits completed, not required
  • Prefer bilingual in Spanish/English, not required

Benefits

  • $30,000 Member stipend (pre-tax) for the service term spread throughout 11 months and distributed every two weeks
  • Up to $10,000 combined Segal Education Award and California For All Education Award (upon completion of the 11-month term of service)
