As a team, we’ve launched five satellites into orbit, signed ten commercial deals worth over $1 billion in revenue, raised over $750 million from top global investors, and recruited a team of over 400 world-class engineers. We all work out of our (legendary) San Francisco office, which was once used to build ships during the World Wars. Our satellites, which operate from geostationary orbit (GEO), weigh only 400 kg and utilize a proprietary software-defined radio payload. Each satellite can connect over two million people, and we’re very excited for the impact we’ll soon have in the Philippines, Peru, Mexico, and more! Backed by substantial funding and a passionate, collaborative team, we offer a rewarding work environment where you'll learn and make a significant impact, no matter where you are in your career. Software Engineer - Infrastructure As a Software Engineer - Infrastructure, you will be one of the first hires to drive our DevOps and Infrastructure architecture and help us scale from one satellite to commanding a fleet of satellites. You will partner with our Flight Software and broader Software engineering organization to operate, scale, and automate operations for our embedded software and platform development. This includes command & control systems, telemetry databases, continuous integration systems, flight code build systems, and other software systems critical to our mission and both commercial and US Government programs. You will improve the state of operations for key software systems at Astranis, with respect to reliability and maintainability as we expand to a fleet of satellites and their supporting services. Role Develop software tools to gain insights into mission-critical software performance and correctness. Maintain and streamline a CI pipeline integrating with a mix of real and simulated hardware. Automate release, deployment, and monitoring tooling for development and production systems. Lead initiatives that improve the speed and accuracy of software teams in developing space-worthy software. Implement and own the proliferation of metrics and performance tracking in development, CI, production, and mission contexts. Work closely with the IT team to procure either cloud compute or on-premises physical machines. Maintain and update installations for development tools. Help automate test scripts and procedures. Requirements 3+ years experience in Infrastructure and DevOps engineering. Bachelor of Science in a related discipline (e.g. Information Technology, Computer Science). Strong proficiency with scripting languages including: python, bash, tcl, groovy, or data storage languages like yaml, json. Experience with scaling build systems such as, but not limited to: Bazel, CMake, or Pants. Experience with Git. Experience setting up and maintaining GCP or AWS cloud machines. Experience developing a CI pipeline for software targeting in-house designed hardware. Strong written and oral communication skills. Highly motivated, self-starting, and able to perform duties autonomously without much supervision. Bonus Strong systems programming knowledge in languages such as C or C++. Experience with Linux build systems such as Yocto. Experience with code coverage reporting. Experience with static analysis tools.
