SCHEDULE: FRI-SUN (5:00 PM - 5:30 AM)

PAY RANGE: Category 5

What You'll Do

This full-time, permanent position is within a manufacturing environment specializing in the production of charitable and lottery gaming products, including pull-tab (break-open) tickets and bingo paper. The Offset Press Apprentice will work closely with the Press Operator to ensure the efficient operation, maintenance, and upkeep of offset printing presses. This role offers hands-on experience with press operation, material handling, and machine maintenance, providing an excellent opportunity for advancement in the printing industry.

The ideal candidate will have 2-5 years of experience in a manufacturing or printing environment, preferably with exposure to offset printing presses or similar industrial machinery. They should possess a strong mechanical aptitude, the ability to troubleshoot and perform basic maintenance on production equipment and a keen eye for quality control and attention to detail. Experience with material handling, press setup, ink management, and machine lubrication is highly desirable. Additionally, the candidate should demonstrate proficiency in following written and verbal instructions, basic math skills for measurements and calculations and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, team-oriented setting.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • Assist in the setup, operation, and maintenance of offset printing presses, supporting tasks such as plate changes, roller adjustments, blanket installation, and make-ready procedures.
  • Participate in hands-on training to develop skills for independent press operation, including troubleshooting and routine maintenance.
  • Monitor press performance, making minor adjustments to maintain print quality, color consistency, registration alignment, and smooth material flow.
  • Load and unload paper rolls or sheets, prepare skids, assist with roll changes, and ensure proper ink, coatings, and substrates are used per job specifications.
  • Perform press wash-ups, color changes, lubrication, and cleaning of press components to prevent contamination and maintain optimal performance.
  • Conduct press checks, identify mechanical issues, and follow procedures for press startup, shutdown, and maintenance.
  • Maintain a clean, organized workstation aligned with 5S or lean principles and adhere to all safety protocols and reporting procedures.
  • Collaborate with press operators and team members to meet production goals and communicate job ticket concerns clearly.
  • Engage in ongoing training to build technical knowledge and support continuous improvement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What You'll Need

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 2 to 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in printing or press operation.
  • Prior experience with offset printing, flexographic printing, or related machinery is a plus.
  • Ability to read and interpret job tickets, work orders, and technical instructions.
  • Understanding of offset press mechanics, ink properties, and paper handling.
  • Basic mechanical troubleshooting skills with a hands-on approach to problem-solving.
  • Moderate to advanced computer skills for data entry, production tracking, and troubleshooting press software.
  • Ability to follow established procedures for press setup, operation, and maintenance.
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills to handle multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining teamwork and collaboration.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, meeting deadlines with precision and accuracy.
