Job Description

St. John Regional Catholic School is seeking qualified candidates for the Facilities Worker position, responsible for maintaining, cleaning, and repairing school facilities and grounds. Responsibilities include performing routine maintenance and minor repairs, such as carpentry, heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, electrical, and plumbing tasks.

Essential Functions

  • Perform basic, preventative, and routine maintenance, construction, and repair tasks according to service, quality, and safety standards. This includes general plumbing, HVAC, electrical, and carpentry work for the maintenance and repair of school facilities.
  • Assist with miscellaneous facility projects, including painting, drywall, carpentry, installation of fixtures, and moving furniture or materials within the facilities.
  • Maintain organization in facility spaces.
  • Maintain grounds by removing debris or leaves, snow removal, trash removal, and other seasonal tasks as required.
  • Ensure the school and grounds are maintained in a clean, safe, and orderly manner.
  • Utilize Personal Protective Equipment and practice safe work habits.
  • Assist with daily traffic control and parking.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or necessitated by school operations, such as setting up for school activities or preparing church for school events.
  • Assist with cleaning as needed (e.g., removing unused items from buildings, cleaning cafeteria floors and tables) and perform custodial tasks.
  • Maintains and inventories, janitorial and housekeeping supplies while developing and implementing scheduled cleanings with the janitorial services.
  • Provide supervision and inspection to contractors/service technicians in the absence of the co-facilities staff.
  • Aid in the custodial work during the hours of operation and support the physical operation of the school while the building is occupied.
  • Accept deliveries and distribute boxes to appropriate office/classrooms.
  • Set up and/or move equipment and furniture for various school events and decorate for holiday events/seasons.
  • Assist in emergency situations (e.g., spills/leaks in the building, clean up after flooding, shovel snow and remove ice during severe weather).
  • Possess good communication skills and collaborate with other staff members, church groups, diocesan representatives, and community leaders.
  • Be on call for alarm system alerts.
  • Perform any additional duties deemed necessary by the facilities or the administration team.

Position Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with no more than three current points.
  • Previous maintenance and minor repair work experience preferred.
  • Possession of journey-level certification.
  • Must be able to move furniture, equipment, and other materials weighing up to and more than 60 pounds; operate various types of manual and power tools and automated systems; and ascend/descend a ladder as needed.
  • Practicing Catholic preferred.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and organization skills required.
  • This position requires absolute confidentiality, professionalism, and a team-player approach.
  • Employment is contingent upon acceptable results of a state and federal fingerprint background check, completion of VIRTUS Training, and completion of all necessary paperwork.

Pay Range: $20, Hourly
